Dialogue with the Divine
H.H. Pope Shenouda III, Prayer, SpiritualityPope Shenouda III is a treasure chest. Oh, if one could peek inside! This book is exactly the vent through which we can peek into his soul. Here we taste the sweetness of his God-centered life through his dialogues with God. We cannot say that we can see the full scope of his intimate relationship with God, but for a moment we can feel and share in this longing for unity with the Lord, speaking to Him from his heart, debating with Him, discussing with Him, and begging Him. This book certainly can teach a person how to pray: how to have a dialogue with the Divine. His Holiness Pope Shenouda III began holding weekly spiritual meetings since the 1960s when he was ordained a bishop, and so the contents of this book are gleaned from as early as those meetings and his various publications, spanning over 50 years of intimate conversations with God. We pray that this book inspires the readers to a deeper relationship with the Divine.$11.99 -

Guirguis the Torchbearer
Fiction Novel, Saints, SpiritualityThis historical fiction novel describes the life of the Coptic Christians a century after the Arab conquest of Egypt. It is being published posthumously, from the Egyptian author Iris Habib El-Masry (1910–1994), known for her “Story of the Coptic Church,” the first comprehensive book on Coptic history that follows a modern historical approach. This novel follows Guirguis, the protagonist of this novel, who was commanded by his brother to be a “torchbearer” in the community he lived in, thus fulfilling Christ’s commandment to be a “light unto the world.” The setting of this novel, as well as the historical circumstances, are based on real facts. Guirguis lived in eighth-century Egypt, during the reign of the ruthless Muslim Caliph, Marwan II of Umayyad (reigned from 744-750). Although very little is known and said about eighth-century Egypt, especially about the Copts who lived during that dark time, El-Masry brilliantly portrays all of the monumental scenes and brings to life names that would have long been forgotten in history.$18.99 -

About the Book Although these homilies and lectures were delivered to monastic communities, the spiritually nourishing teachings reflect on biblical teachings that are applicable to all readers seeking to pursue a life of holiness. His Holiness Pope Shenouda III of Blessed Memory draws from decades of spiritual dedication, formally beginning from his joining the monastery, and thereafter being ordained a priest, then hegumen, bishop, and finally chosen as the 117th Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, leading the Coptic Church as he excelled by God's grace in his role as a shepherd and teacher for over 40 years before his departure in 2012. His deeply moving homilies are reminiscent of the famed sayings of the early desert fathers, and bring to mind the famed oratory influence and eloquence of the fourth century archbishop of Constantinople St. John Chrysostom (the "golden-mouthed"). -

On Repentance & Defeating Despair: Letters to Theodore by St. John Chrysostom
Early Church Today Series, SpiritualityOn Repentance & Defeating Despair: Letters to Theodore by St. John Chrysostom Volume 1 of The Early Church Today Series by St. Mary & St. Moses Abbey Press$12.99
About the Book Do you ever feel God is an oppressive judge looking to punish you? Have you ever felt defeated because of your sins or because you feel you are so far away from where you know you should be with God? Whether you have just fallen into a particular sin you are ashamed of, or have a repeated beloved sin which you feel you are unable to extinguish, this book is for you. St. John Chrysostom wrote two letters to his friend Theodore, who along with St. John and his friend Basil, committed to a life of celibacy and spiritual living; however, Theodore was unable to keep his commitments and later fell into lustful passions and strayed quite afar off from godliness. These letters are St. John’s heartfelt words written in anguish to his lost friend pleading for his return. The purpose of this book is to help make St. John’s letters to Theodore accessible to modern audiences. Various editorial supplements and revisions have been implemented to help achieve that end, including using modern words in place of archaic language, and providing summary captions to make it easier to understand and follow along, all while intently focusing on preserving the original meaning of the author. This marks the first of several, God willing, books to be published as part of The Early Church Today Series, which aims to manifest the richness of the early Chuch and its relevance to today. The Early Church Today Series The early leaders of the Church, tasked with shepherding Christ’s flock, left us spiritual wealth that is too often neglected in modern times. The Early Church Today Series, published by the St. Mary & St. Moses Abbey Press, aims to help make that richness more accessible to readers, inviting them to see the applicability of the early Church to our walk with God today. By sharing practical selections from the writings of the early Church, aided by meaningful editorial supplements and revisions, each book will attempt to diminish impediments and bring to light what the Church has to offer. -
