This Orthodox Christian commentary is derivedfrom a series of sermons given by His Eminence Metropolitan Youssef of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern United States, where His Eminence has been serving since the early 90s.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
(EPISTLES TO TIMOTHY) St. Paul writes two epistles to his disciple St. Timothy, who St. Paul and other elders ordained as Bishop of Ephesus. The first epistle was written to refute various false teachings and to guide St. Timothy regarding supervising affairs of the growing church. The second letter was a message of encouragement, and can be summarized in three words: “Fulfill your ministry” (2 Tim. 4:5).St. Paul encourages St. Timothy to remain strong, teach others what has been taught to him, and endure hardship.
(EPISTLE TO TITUS) This is the third of St. Paul’s “pastoral letters” (after 1 & 2 Timothy).Writing to his spiritual son and the bishop of Crete, Titus is given instruction on supervising church government and affairs.
(EPISTLE TO PHILEMON) Although a very short letter about the specific issue Philemon was having with his servant Onesimus who ran away from him, it is very useful in teaching us about forgiveness and social relationships.
All of us, without exception, have gone through one period or another in our life wherein we felt lonely. Loneliness is a sweeping feeling of isolation, despite the person's being in the midst of a crowd. The feeling of loneliness does not require that a person be far from people, for a person might be living with others, and he nevertheless feels lonely. And a person may be surrounded by many people, yet his feeling of loneliness increases. For the feeling of loneliness springs from within. His Eminence Metropolitan Youssef, in this book, sheds light on loneliness, its definition, causes, and treatment.
If you want to change and eliminate the problems which you have encountered because of your upbringing, enter into a loving relationship with God and others in your life, and these problems will be resolved. When you learn how to love God, and train yourself to love your brother, you will change and become conformed to the image of His Son.
H.E. Metropolitan Youssef was ordained Bishop in 1992 and elevated to Metropolitan in 2022 for the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern United States. His Eminence has completed a Ph.D. degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary University in San Antonio, TX.
